The South - Central Coast Older Adult Behavioral Health Initiative is hosting an all-day training on mental health first aid. This training will inform participants of the risk factors and warning signs of a variety of mental health challenges common among older adults. Ideal participants are adults who regularly interact with and care for older people and have had limited clinical training in mental health disorders. A certificate will be awarded at the end of the training and breakfast and lunch will be served.
Participants will learn to: Assess for risk of suicide or harm, listen nonjudgmentally, give reassurance and information, encourage appropriate professional help, and encourage self-help and other support strategies.
Training provided by: Chris Eilers, L.P.C., Older Adult Behavioral Health Specialist, Lane County & Jerry Gilmer, L.P.C., Older Adult Behavioral Health Specialist, Klamath County.
