The land of ice and snow, of warm-huddle-fires and reindeer, Scandinavian is as close to the Christmas idyll as one can get – and the Sons of Norway and Scandinavian Trade Association are planning a to offer a fun evening of food and fellowship celebrating the various Scandinavian Holiday customs.
In Sweden, the Christmas season officially kicks off with the celebration of St Lucia Day on the 13th of December and this year the julbord will be a traditional buffet. Some of the members are bring special foods for the event and everyone is welcome to bring a dish or desert to share.
Our Yule Table (Joulupöytä in Finland) or Christmas smorgasbord will include:
Drinks: Glögg, Wine, Julegrøt – Soft Drinks, Water, Coffee
The meal will include various cheeses, sausage, crackers, Prinskorv - small hot dog sausages, and other treats.
From Sweden, our main hot course will be julskinka ("Christmas ham") and the classic köttbullar, better known as Swedish meatballs. There will be Dopp i grytan ("dipping in the kettle") - dipping bread slices in the ham broth from the Christmas ham. Yes, there will be salmon, pickled herring, and potatoes as well. Of course, there will be salmon. Did we mention crumkakka, and juligrit, and rice pudding?
Any of course deserts including Christmas cookies, and even Danish Kringle (from little Denmark, Racine, Wisconsin).
The evening will include entertainment, as well as an exciting appearance of Vikings. MC Tom Mortenson.
Seats are limited to 30 seats, so make you plans to attend this Holiday Event early. Open to all Vikings and want-to-be Vikings, i.e., Sons of Norway, STA and TBIBC members as well as the public.
