CAWS North Dakota is excited to offer the three part Essentials of Advocacy series for new advocates working at our 20 member programs. The intent of this series is to provide foundational information in: advocacy, domestic violence and sexual assault. This series will lead up to Legal Issues training, which is required for advocates to become certified under Supreme Court Administrative Rule 34, to assist victims with protection orders. Essentials of Advocacy training is designed for crisis intervention and shelter staff who have 3 or less years of experience.
Each session will be a two day training scheduled as follows:
March 7-8: Essentials of Advocacy (Meeting @ Comfort Suites)
April 4-5: Essentials of Domestic Violence (Comfort Suites)
May 2-3: Essentials of Sexual Violence (Quality Inn)
June 5-6: Legal Issues (Comfort Suites) Must register separately for this training.
In the March Essentials of Advocacy training topics will include:
Introduction to Advocacy
Violence Against Women
Socio-Economic Status of Victims
Trauma Informed Care
Dialogue and Active Listening
Power and Control
Topics for each of the sessions will be provided prior to each training. It is important that participants are able to attend all three of the Essentials Series, that each “class” will have the same participants.
Those intending to participate in Legal Issues in June are not required to attend the Essentials Series, although it is encouraged as it will provide a foundation.
Space is limited to 12 people.
Online registration available now through March 1, 2018.
After March 1 please contact Courtney at CAWS North Dakota for space availability.
This training series is based largely on information and work adapted from Praxis International, Resource Sharing Project, Washington Coalition for Sexual Assault Programs, Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Ohio Domestic Violence Network and Tennessee Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence.
There is no registration fee
There will be a block of hotel rooms available at the Comfort Suites for each training under "CAWS ND". Call the Comfort Suites at 701-223-4009.
Each participant/agency is responsible for all travel expenses (travel, lodging and per diem).
