The shadowing experience allows prospective students the opportunity to sit chair-side while a third or fourth-year dental student treats patients. Students may shadow in the general clinic or specialty clinics within the school when available.
Students must arrive for shadowing by 1 pm for the afternoon session. You will not be able to shadow if it is past 1 pm.
For local students: In order to best serve all shadowing students, local students can only shadow 2 shadowing sessions per week for 3 consecutive weeks, and then must take at least 3 weeks off. After 3 weeks, a student can then schedule for another 3 week rotation.
For out-of-town-students: Students travelling from out-of-town may set up consecutive days shadowing during their stay in Kansas City. This must not exceed 5 days.
The dress code is business casual. No open-toed shoes or jeans are permitted. Socks are required. Long hair must be pulled back. Scrubs are also acceptable. Please do not wear strong smelling perfumes, colognes, lotions, etc. as these can cause headaches or allergic reactions for our patients. Please cancel your shadowing appointment if you are exhibiting symptoms of illness such as sneezing, coughing, etc.
